2nd Geo3En Transnational Project Meeting – University of Zagreb, Croatia

2nd Geo3En Transnational Project Meeting – University of Zagreb, Croatia

On March 7th, 2022, the 2nd Geothermal Energy European Education Network (Geo3En) transnational project meeting was held at the University Of Zagreb (Croatia).

After two years of COVID-19 travel restrictions, it was finally possible for the Geo3En consortium to meet on-site.

The objectives of this second transnational project meeting were to present and discuss on the Intensive Study Programme (ISP) programmes [IO2], training activities implementation and evaluation process [IO10].

On the agenda:

9:15-9:45: The meeting started at 9:15 with FER welcome and presentation of the meeting agenda. Then, it followed with round table of presentation as the consortium did not meet physically since Geo3En kick-off meeting and also because of the change of TUDA key contributor (Bastian WELSCH being replaced by Claire Bossennec).
The schedule of presentations of the consortium partners was determined, given their expertise, which follows the logic of the development of the geothermal system (and future student ISP project): ULS, TUDA, UniZG FER, RU.

9:45-11:00: Presentation of ULS ISP and discussion on preparing input data (geothermal heat source) for use in the ISP program. All participants agreed that for each ISP clear learning outcomes should be defined that students should acquire by the end of the programme.

11:15-12:00: Presentation of TUDA ISP and discussion on providing pressure, temperature and mass flow of geothermal fluid and design characteristics of surface heat exchanger. This input is required for geothermal plant design, its size and system selection.

12:00-13:00: Presentation of UniZG FER ISP and discussion on its virtual activity programme

14:00-15:00: Work session and discussion on Geo3En course catalogue [IO3]

15:00-15:45: Presentation of RU ISP and discussion on societal acceptance (pollution, earthquakes) was highlighted as an important factor in the decision to launch the geothermal project.

15:45-16:30: ISP programme outline
The partners have formally decided on the implementation of the ISP program with the given dates and deadlines:

  • 28.03.2022 – Kick-off meeting (online) with students
    – Short presentation of each partner describing the ISP program, implementation and learning outcomes.
    – Invitation to students to form groups (6 groups) of 4 members from each university and select a team leader who will be in charge of project management.
    – Description of the students’ projects – geothermal facility design based on input data on site characteristics – business model and plan of investments. The written report must be up to 15 pages long and a short presentation will be held as part of the Reykjavik ISP.
  • 04.04. – 08.04.2022 – Online activity: TUDA ISP Preparation courses
  • 11.04. – 15.04.2022 – Online activity: ULS ISP Preparation courses
  • 19.04. – 22.04.2022 – Online activity: UniZG FER ISP Preparation courses
  • 25.04. – 29.04.2022 – Physical activity: ISP UniZG FER
  • 09.05. – 13.05.2022 – Physical activity: ISP ULS
  • 16.05. – 20.05.2022 – Physical activity: ISP TUDA
  • 13.06. – 17.06.2022 – Online activity: RU ISP Preparation courses
  • 20.06. – 24.06.2022 – Physical activity: ISP RU, on the last day of this ISP students will present their projects.
  • 28.06.2022 – Deadline for the ISP written students’ project reports
  • 30.06.2022 – Evaluation of the ISP reports by Geo3EN consortium partners.

16:30-17:00: Wrap session and Next steps overview
